Did You Expect Any Less?

I try hard not to believe in Stereotypes. But they exist for a reason. For countless generations, Canadians have been poking fun at Newfoundland. As the most Eastern Province in Canada, they’ve become a common punch-line for jokes and humorous folklores.
A recent announcement from Canada Post adds another laugh to the quirky Province. The national mail carrier announced it is suspending service to 13 housing units in St. John’s, Newfoundland because of high amounts of dog excrement. Row houses on Freshwater Road and Anderson Avenue in the city have too much dog mess on the sidewalks for mail carriers.
“This situation presents risk of slips and falls and it’s a situation where we can decide not to deliver mail”. said Genevieve Latour, a spokeswoman for Canada Post. She believes the dog manure is a hazard on the same level as ice or snow.

How Many Newfoundlanders Does It Take to Clean a Sidewalk?
Fellow Newfoundlanders are not taking this decision lightly. “I was very shocked”, said resident Pam Manning. She claims to clean up after her dog all the time. “I’m sure they run into that where ever they go, but they’re singling us out, I don’t know”.
I’ve always wanted to visit Newfoundland. The scenic landscape and quaint towns makes it a perfect getaway. I’ll just remember to bring a gas mask whenever I go…
