Did You Expect Any Less?

Archive for March, 2007

I have no problem with public speaking.  For others, this task is nerve-wracking or just plain scary.  It takes a special person or organzation to relay an effective message in front of a big audience.

A company like International Speakers Bureau are experts in the public speaking arena.  They have profiles of over 1000 business, motivational and inspirational speakers.  Popular celebrities, sports personalities and corporate entertainers are available to inspire and educate people in a corporate environment.  In addition, they offer streaming video services so you never have to leave the house or workplace.  The company has a very big database filled with thousands of great public speakers and corporate entertainers for any theme or budget!

If you’re looking for a little inspiration or would like to motivate a group of people, I would highly suggest the International Speaker Bureau.  You can visit their website by clicking here.

  • Car shows are synonyomous with glamour and beautiful women. Unfortunately, Korea’s biggest Auto Maker thinks otherwise. For next month’s Seoul Motor Show, Hyundai and Kia Motors will hire fewer sexy models because they want most of the attention placed on their cars rather than the women.

Fewer models will wear miniskirts or sleeveless tops, the Korea Times reported. “There has been criticism that the shows are not motor shows but model shows,” said a Hyundai official. “With the reduction of female models, our new cars will be the main focus”.

Hyundai has been selling cars across the Pacific Ocean for more than 20 years. They made a bold move by selling economical cars, while competitors produced cars with higher horsepower and crappier gas mileage. Today, they’re no longer a low-end brand with mundane styling, as evidenced by their latest Sonata and Tiburon models.

George Michael Would Probably Choose a Hyundai

Perhaps all this success has inflated some egos at upper management, especially into thinking their cars are more attention worthy than a beautiful woman.

Does this mean using a gorgeous model to promote a car will result in fewer sales?  Based on Hyundai’s rationalization, it’s a definite yes.

Maybe they should start using uglier models to increase sales. Not a bad idea at all! ;-)

  • Vacation Plans and Travel Insurance

Have you bought your travel insurance yet?  You probably have heard it on the news these last few days - airport closures and long travel delays in the USA because of heavy snow.  This could have been you - stranded in an airport wondering if you are going to make your flight connections and get to your Caribbean cruise before it departs the New York port. Wouldn’t that be a dreadful way to start your holiday?

What happens when you finally get to New York and your cruise has departed?  Last minute hotels in New York is expensive. What about dinner?  Is it possible to meet your cruise at the next port and how do you arrange a flight to get you there? I would be pulling my hair out trying to figure out what would be the next logical step.  And all these added costs! All of a sudden my travel spending budget has been cut in half, if not a quarter, before my holiday even starts.

This is why you should always protect your travel investment with insurance.  So what if your past cruise holidays have been uneventful?  The law of probabilities will soon catch up to you.  We can not control everything - the weather, the traffic and air schedule.  The sooner you realize the importance of being able to have a hassle free holiday and purchase that much needed insurance, you will have a better peace of mind.  And, they will help you get to the next port!

If you purchased insurance, you could have immediate 24/7 access to an emergency service hotline.  What is that good for? Rebooking cancelled flights, making alternative hotel reservations or assisting with ground transportation.

Travel insurance will provide you with adequate coverage for delayed trips and cancellations due to winter storms or other severe weather.  So, if you were to cancel a trip due to severe weather conditions, your insurance will provide reimbursement for nonrefundable covered expenses.

If travel insurance is not an area of interest, this website also carries car insurancehome insurance and pet insurance.

  • The Gate is Closed For Now

An era in Science Fiction has finally ended on Cable TV.  After 10 long seasons, Stargate SG-1 has finally shown its last episode.  It was not that long ago the SciFi network announced the cancellation.  Numerous online petitions and websites were set up to somehow convince the network to change their minds but to no avail.  Dedicated fans will find it hard to believe the characters and storylines they’ve grown to appreciate will no longer be televised on a weekly basis.

Science fiction has long been a staple for deep social commentary about human existence, our beliefs and how we relate to the world around us.  Evidently, a trait Stargate SG-1 has done so well for the past decade.  The compelling storylines and well rounded characters have allowed the franchise to develop a loyal following around the world.

The last episode itself was a great one.  Don’t worry; I won’t reveal any major spoilers!

Fans in North America have only been able to view half the season so far.  But since the United Kingdom broadcast episodes a couple weeks in advance, I was able to obtain a copy of the SG-1 series finale from an old friend.  Titled “Unending”, longtime fans will see a familiar face along with numerous other surprises.  I only have one word to summarize the entire plot: “MOEBIUS”.  Longtime fans will probably know what this means.  OK, I’ve said enough already.

The TV series may be over but it doesn’t mean an end for SG-1 and their adventures.  MGM, owners of the Stargate franchise, has given a green light to produce two direct-to-DVD movies based on SG-1.  Both projects are expected to be released later this year.

Plus, a third Stargate series is also in development for 2008.  Stargate producer, Robert C. Cooper, revealed the new series will retain a similar feel with Stargate SG-1”.  He also said, “It’s the approach to the storytelling that I think makes it unique, and that makes it Stargate. And that’s that it has a sense of humor, and it’s people from our time going on these adventures. It’s not set in the future. … I think that’s what makes it unique, and I think that’s what a third series would have to have for it to succeed.”

There is light at the end of the tunnel after all…
