Stargate Atlantis - The Complete Third Season on DVD is now available for sale.  As a hardcore fan of the series, I rushed out to purchase a set for myself.  Produced by MGM, Fox Home Entertainment and Stargate productions, the set is filled with bonus features and audio commentaries that kept me glued to the TV for hours.

Stargate Atlantis - The Complete Third Season

The picture quality with each episode is beautiful, along with the surround sound.  Bonus features include a Mission Directive that profiles each episode with behind the scenes trivia and information.  Audio commentaries also provide deep insight with each episode.

Season three introduced a familiar enemy and a sad goodbye to a beloved cast member.  Back are the Replicators from SG-1 fame and their quest to destroy Atlantis.  Plus, an unfortunate turns of events lead to the demise of Dr. Beckett, a character adored by many fans.  Guest appearances by Richard Dean Andersen and Robert Picardo bring an added spark to a show struggling to set itself apart from the now cancelled Stargate SG-1 series.

In retrospect, Season 3 of Stargate Atlantis felt like another attempt to re-make the entire show.  There were some great moments but inconsistent writing and a lack of character development left a lot to be desired with many episodes.  With a revised cast for Season 4, I hope the writing team can build on various story arcs established from Season 3.

Overall, hope is not lost for SGA but I sincerely hope Season 4 can produce a lot more positive change, especially with Stargate SG-1 cancelled.  Despite the inconsistencies of each episode, Stargate Atlantis - The Complete Third Season on DVD is still a quality offering from the production team.  Packed with bonus features, beautiful audio and visuals, this DVD set is a must buy for anyone looking to dig deeper into the Stargate mythos.
