Did You Expect Any Less?

I don’t know about you but I consider myself a real d00d with a very big masculine streak. To prove my point, I’ve relegated my fashion line to mostly jeans and t-shirts. Furthermore, you will never find me wearing common Yuppie brands such as ”Lew-ee Voo-town”, “Goo-Chee”, “Hall-Leester” and, the most lamest brand of them all, “Loo-Loo Lem-Mawn”. I would rather wear “NASCAR” inspired fashion of my favourite driver than be seen with a typical name brand.
Over at my Wife’s Blog, she’s always writing about the latest and greatest things about being a Diva. And to further agitate my senses, she also wrote up an interesting article about ”Clinique Skin Supplies for Men”. Check out the marketing statement for this so-called cosmetic line for d00ds.
“NEW Clinique Skin Supplies for Men M Cover is a revolutionary corrector that can hide a multitude of sins…Equipped with ingredients to help soothe, moisturise and keep skin feeling and looking comfortable, this concealer will help to keep flaws and dark spots undetectable.”
Aww…Wasn’t that such a pretty marketing statement? I really loved the first sentence: ”…can hide a multitude of sins”.
What type of sins are they trying to convey? This statement reads like a Harlequin Romance Novel; a perfect way for Johnny “to cover up” before he heads out to his construction job with the boys.

If I want to see lipstick on men, I would attend a KISS concert
Any self-respecting guy would be scared off with such a statment. If a cosmetic company, such as Clinique, would like me to get in touch with my feminine side, I would rather put my money toward something else, like tickets to a football game.
Sure, I value the long-term outlook of my skin by using cleansers and moisturizers on daily basis. However, I beg to question any male-centric product, accompanied with a statement that tries to make me feel like a female supermodel (and look like one too!).
To be fair, it wouldn’t surprise me if the new Clinique Skin Supplies for Men is a workable solution to help maintain healthy skin. If the right situation arises (when I’m 80 years old), I may try the product in the future. But for now, I’ll stick to my usual cleansing solutions and facial creams.
Unless, you’re a typical yuppie, who lives in an overpriced downtown condominium, perhaps the new Clinique Skin Supplies for Men is a perfect solution for you. But for me, I would rather perform some research on my own, than fall prey to such lame marketing statements.
